Pashinyan Says Russia Is Not a Strategic Partner: Peskov

Moscow continues to consider that the partnership between Russia and Armenia corresponds to the interests of the peoples of both countries and is beneficial for them. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, in an interview with Vesti.

“Pashinyan has said that Russia is not a strategic partner. We continue to believe that our partnership is what corresponds to the interests of both peoples and is beneficial for them,” Peskov said.

The Kremlin spokesman added that if Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has a different stance and can explain it to the citizens of Armenia, then the Armenians will express their attitude during a referendum, if it takes place.

Earlier, Pashinyan announced that Armenia intends to start the process of preparing for a referendum on joining the European Union.

Peskov also stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin will take the opportunity during the meeting with Pashinyan at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit to discuss Yerevan’s aspiration to join the EU.
