Samvel Karapetyan Does Not Exclude Opposition Unification
Businessman, philanthropist, and leader of the "Strong Armenia" movement, Samvel Karapetyan, hinted at a secret process of opposition unification. In a conversation with reporters on August 6, he stated that everything is in active progress—"do not worry." He indicated that he had suggested to unite openly and in a live broadcast, but his partners preferred to do it without unnecessary noise.
Karapetyan did not elaborate on the specific stage of this process. Responding to a question about the differences in the maps depicted on the insignias of the authorities and the opposition, the politician assured that the authorities are incapable of restoring borders and reclaiming territories occupied by neighbors. "If they can't, let them leave; we will go and bring back our territories," suggested Karapetyan.
Commenting on the sharp decline in trade with Russia, the politician noted that this is "the success of the incapable authorities of Armenia" in making farmers poorer. Regarding his foreign citizenship, he suggested addressing that question when he is released from house arrest.
In response to allegations of overcharging for electricity for kindergartens and the military, Karapetyan noted that officials are repeating their leader's words but have no evidence. "The electric power company has the potential for about 3,000 people to engage in illegal activities. During Pashinyan's time, 8.5 billion dollars were squandered. So now, should we say he ate it? Although maybe he had a share," remarked Karapetyan.
