In Case of Continuation, We Can Consider Elections as Forged: Serzh Sargsyan
“The issue is not just the election day; the problem is the environment that is formed before the elections,” stated the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan.
“We can already consider the elections as forged if this continues, when:
- the current regime arrests political opponents with fabricated charges,
- pressures their supporters,
- spends state resources not as they would in a non-election year,
- silences free speech through coercive methods and imprisonment,
- pressures media outlets that criticize the government,
- changes the rules of the electoral game without broad political consensus,
- uses state bodies and public resources exclusively to serve the political agenda of the authorities,
- creates evident inequality in the information space and restricts the dissemination of alternative opinions in various ways,
- external players openly emphasize their preference for the current rulers before the elections,”
it is noted in the post on the president's Facebook page.
