Armed Clash on the Border of Azerbaijan and Iran: Smugglers Open Fire and Flee
A large shipment of narcotics being transported from Iran to the Republic of Azerbaijan has been intercepted. The press center of the State Border Service (GPS) reports that measures aimed at ensuring reliable protection of the state border and combating the illegal circulation of drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors continue, as reported by 1news.az.
According to the Border Guard Forces of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, an attempt to breach the state border was recorded, with four unidentified individuals attempting to cross from the Islamic Republic of Iran into the Republic of Azerbaijan.
"An order of 'Ready to Act' was immediately declared at the border post, and necessary steps were taken to prevent the violation. The border guard issued the command 'Stop' and began a pursuit, firing warning shots into the air. The violators did not comply with the order and displayed armed resistance, opening fire with the intention of killing the border guards, before abandoning their packages and fleeing in the opposite direction under the cover of darkness and a forested area.
As a result of operational and investigative measures carried out in cooperation with officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, three packages belonging to the criminals, totaling 33 kilograms and 900 grams of narcotics, as well as other material evidence, were found and seized. Information about the incident has been conveyed to the opposing side through the border representation.
Investigative and search operations related to the incident are continuing," the statement said.
