Stricter Technical Inspection Requirements for Vehicle Gas Cylinders
The government adopted a decision during its meeting on February 26 that tightens the technical inspection requirements for vehicle gas cylinders.
The decision stipulates that the inspection and certification process of gas cylinders in specialized laboratories will be mandatorily recorded. Laboratories are required to retain these recordings for at least six months. If necessary, they will be accessible to law enforcement agencies.
It is noteworthy that five explosions involving gas-cylinder-operated vehicles were registered in Armenia in 2025. Compressed gas continues to be one of the primary types of fuel for vehicles in the country.
According to legislation in effect since 2005, owners of gas-powered vehicles are required to undergo laboratory inspections of their cylinders every two years. Gas stations are prohibited from servicing vehicles that have not passed the mandatory inspection.
Theoretically, the oversight of the cylinder certification process is entrusted to the Inspectorate of Urban Development, Technical, and Fire Safety, but in practice, such inspections are not thoroughly conducted.
