Legislative Change Regarding Those Who Evaded Military Service Passed

The National Assembly has adopted for the first reading the draft law authored by MP Hayk Sargsyan from the "Civil Contract" faction, which proposes amendments to the law on the "Military Service and Status of Servicemen." This draft law stipulates that citizens aged 27-37 can be exempt from criminal liability by voluntarily returning to Armenia and choosing one of five options offered—ranging from serving 24 months to paying up to 15 million AMD to the state budget.

The draft was approved with 87 votes in favor and 5 abstentions. The author of the draft, Hayk Sargsyan, thanked the "Armenia" faction for voting in favor, expressing confusion about why the "I Have Honor" faction did not support the proposal.
