Relics from Geghard Have Been Taken, We Must Be Vigilant: Aleksanyan on the Bishops' Assembly Being Held Outside Armenia
If relics from Geghard have been removed and taken out of the country, there is no reason to be surprised; we just need to be cautious that no sacred relics end up being gifted by someone to a friend. This was stated by the deputy of the National Assembly from the CPK faction, Vahagn Aleksanyan, during a briefing with journalists, referring to reports about the Bishops' Assembly being held outside of Armenia.
"I ask our customs officials to be attentive and understand what these individuals are taking with them. Perhaps they are taking something from our Church’s sacred relics as well. They might take a relic from Geghard and gift it to someone, to share some holiness at a wedding or a celebration. Such actions are expected from them. The brother of a man is an agent of the KGB; I am not sure which services he is cooperating with now. The location of the event might hint at where he will try to conduct it, but as you can see, he does not have that authority. As you have seen, the court has accepted the case and applied measures to secure the claim, particularly concerning the Archbishop of the Musasir Diocese. I believe even more interesting rulings will emerge in the near future, and even more intriguing claims will arise in the judicial system of the Republic of Armenia. I believe that this is the correct path: the Armenian courts should examine the matter and understand what is being discussed, comparing the 'Statute of the Armenians’ with the decisions made, to see how they align with each other," noted Vahagn Aleksanyan.
