Israel Strikes Hezbollah, Accusing Group of Ceasefire Violation
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced today that they have struck Hezbollah's wing in southern Lebanon, accusing the group of violating the ceasefire.
“Some time ago, in response to the ongoing violations of the ceasefire regime by Hezbollah, the IDF targeted the terrorist organization Hezbollah in the Zaitah area of southern Lebanon,” the IDF stated in a press release.
Earlier, the Lebanese Army announced that it had completed the first phase of a program to transfer Hezbollah's weapons into state control in the south of the country. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the Lebanese government's efforts to disarm Hezbollah but deemed them insufficient.
On the night of November 27, 2024, a ceasefire went into effect between Israel and Lebanon, following nearly 14 months of continuous escalation, under a U.S.-backed peace plan.
