Disney to Invest $1 Billion in OpenAI
Walt Disney is set to invest $1 billion in OpenAI and will allow the artificial intelligence developer to utilize its franchise characters. According to the agreement, Sora and ChatGPT will begin creating videos featuring Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, and Mufasa starting in early 2026. The contract does not extend to the use of the actors' likenesses or voices.
“Through our partnership with OpenAI, we will thoughtfully and responsibly expand the reach of our stories using generative artificial intelligence while honoring and protecting creators and their work,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger.
