Nearly One Million American Soldiers Will Remain Without Pay
U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson has announced that more than one million American servicemen will remain without pay next week due to the Democrats' reluctance to pass a budget agreement and reopen the government. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
“One million three hundred thousand servicemen – active duty members, pilots, and sailors – will not receive their paychecks because the Democrats have stepped back and shown that they do not care,” Johnson told reporters.
It is worth noting that the new fiscal year in the United States has begun, but Congress has failed to approve the budget, which has resulted in the government being unable to function. A government shutdown in the United States implies a halt in the operations of certain federal agencies funded directly by Congress due to the absence of a budget for the upcoming fiscal year, a scenario that is not uncommon.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump had previously stated that he could use a government shutdown to carry out mass layoffs and pay cuts. He argued that the Democrats' position on the budget had created a budget impasse, and the White House was exploiting the situation to eliminate programs that Republicans disapprove of.
