Britain Promises to Shoot Down Russian Aircraft
The United Kingdom will engage Russian aircraft flying over NATO member countries' territories, "if necessary." This was announced by the UK's Foreign Secretary Iveta Cooper.
"If we have to confront those aircraft that fly without permission in NATO airspace, we will do it," she stated. Cooper characterized Russia's recent actions as dangerous and reckless.
It should be noted that earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski declared at an emergency UN Security Council meeting in New York that "any hostile aircraft or missile entering NATO airspace will be shot down."
