Fires Continue in Turkey: 10 Firefighters Killed During Firefighting Efforts
Numerous forest fires have erupted in Turkey and Cyprus against the backdrop of severe heat. At least 10 people have died, and vast areas have been burned. Six new large forest fires were recorded in Turkey in one day. The situation has been worsened by strong winds and high temperatures.
According to the country’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, 10 firefighters lost their lives during firefighting efforts in one province, with 14 others injured. Evacuations have taken place in various regions of Turkey.
It is also noteworthy that a significant fire has ignited north of Limassol, Cyprus, resulting in the death of 2 individuals. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the fire, with the possibility of arson being considered. Efforts to control the raging fires have yet to succeed, amid a risk of the fire spreading with temperatures reaching up to 44 degrees.
