Belarus Opposition Leader Sergey Tikhanovsky Released
Sergey Tikhanovsky, the leader of the Belarusian opposition, has been released following a meeting between President Lukashenko and a special envoy of Trump.
According to the current information available, Sergey Tikhanovsky has left Belarus. “The President of Belarus has released Sergey Tikhanovsky and 14 other political prisoners ahead of the meeting with Keith Kellogg,” stated John Cole, Deputy Special Representative of Trump.
It is important to note that Tikhanovsky had been imprisoned since 2020. He had sought to participate in the presidential elections in Belarus, but the country’s Electoral Commission did not register his candidacy, leading to his arrest and an 18-year prison sentence. The leadership of the opposition was taken over by his wife, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
