Russia-Armenia Relations Strained: US Intelligence Report
The US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has expressed concern over the increasing influence of Russia in the South Caucasus region in recent years. The agency's latest report on global threats indicates that Russia has nearly succeeded in reestablishing Georgia within its sphere of influence.
The report notes that the government, led by the "Georgian Dream" party, has created conditions that allow Russia to strengthen its influence in the country, especially following the parliamentary elections held last October.
According to the document, relations between Russia and Armenia have remained tense over the past year, with Armenia warning about a potential exit from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The report also states that Russia has conducted informational operations aimed at undermining Armenian democracy and its more pro-Western leadership.
There are no assessments in the report regarding Russia's relations with Azerbaijan.
