Trump's Statements Create Incorrect Impressions, Says Germany's Foreign Minister
The U.S. authorities are developing new sanctions against Russia and may implement them despite President Donald Trump's contrary statements. This assessment was made by Germany's Foreign Minister Heiko Maas during a broadcast on ZDF.
He focused on Trump's remarks made on May 20, stating that the U.S. would not impose new sanctions against Russia. "This creates an incorrect impression. There is a large package of sanctions in the U.S. Senate, and a bill on this matter. Nearly 80 senators have already supported it. America will also act. This is clearly stated. Now, strategic patience is necessary. We need to maintain clarity on this issue.
The U.S. is preparing an extensive package of sanctions. It will now be submitted for discussion in Congress. Of course, it will come into effect only if it passes those discussions. But from everything I have heard, this will happen," emphasized Germany's Foreign Minister.
