US Denies Transfer of American Tanks to Kyiv
The US administration has refused to allow Australia to transfer used American M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. Australia’s public broadcaster ABC has reported that more than six months after Canberra announced a $245 million military aid package to Kyiv, the tanks are still awaiting final delivery approval.
According to the report, Australia has written off 59 M1A1 Abrams tanks purchased in 2007 that have never been used in combat zones. These are being replaced with more modern M1A2 battle tanks.
At the same time, agency representatives familiar with the situation have pointed out ongoing uncertainty in the transfer process due to the lack of official US permission. Furthermore, Australia has begun to doubt the feasibility of handing over the M1A1 tanks to Ukraine due to their technical shortcomings. "The weakest point of the Abrams tank is the lid, and we are talking about a war involving drones," explained one of the military officials on the television channel.
