Trump Sends Message on Anniversary of Armenian Genocide
US President Donald Trump has sent a message on the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
“Today we remember the Great Catastrophe and honor the memory of those who suffered in one of the most horrific calamities of the 20th century. Since 1915, one and a half million Armenians were displaced and condemned to death in the final years of the Ottoman Empire. On this commemorative day, we again join the large Armenian community in America and around the world to mourn the many lost lives.
Every year on April 24, we reflect on the strong and enduring ties between the American and Armenian peoples. We are proud of the American Committee for Armenian and Syrian Relief, established in 1915, which provided crucial humanitarian assistance to Armenian refugees, and we are grateful to the thousands of Americans who have contributed to or volunteered to help Armenians displaced from their homes.
On this day, we bear witness to the strength and resilience of the Armenian people in the face of tragedy. We are fortunate that so many Armenians have brought their rich culture to our shores and made significant contributions to our nation's development, including decorated soldiers, renowned artists, famous architects, and successful entrepreneurs. In honoring the memory of the victims, my administration remains committed to promoting religious freedom and protecting vulnerable minorities,” Trump stated in his message.
The US President also added, “We look forward to continuing our strategic partnership with Armenia and supporting regional stability in pursuit of sustainable prosperity and security.”
It is noteworthy that Trump did not use the term “Genocide” but instead referred to the Latin expression “Meds Yeghern.”
