We Will Resolve This Issue by Military Means If No Other Option Exists: Hegseth
U.S. President Donald Trump is seriously committed to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. This was stated by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in an interview with Fox News.
"Trump is determined that Iran must not have nuclear weapons. If this issue cannot be resolved through negotiations, then we also have other options, including military ones," Hegseth said.
According to him, the U.S. hopes that a military scenario will not be necessary. He noted that the indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran representatives held in Oman on April 12 were productive.
The negotiations focused on overcoming tensions surrounding Iran's nuclear program. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi participated in the talks, while U.S. President's Special Representative Stephen Witkoff represented the United States. The parties agreed to continue discussions.
The second round is scheduled for April 19.
