Papoyan Addresses ZPMC Employees' Strike
The state's responsibility is to create institutions, particularly unions, so that established unions can help people defend their rights through appropriate legislation and arrive at solutions through joint negotiations. This was stated by the Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, during a conversation with reporters, addressing the ongoing strike by ZPMC employees that has lasted for several days.
"The best situation for the Ministry of Economy is for the mine to operate because Armenia's interest stems from that. Operating the mine means job creation, economic growth, continuous increase in exports, tax payments, and so on. The Ministry of Economy hopes that the negotiations between the union workers and the company's management will conclude with the result that the mine starts operating as soon as possible," the minister said.
It is noteworthy that since January 31, ZPMC employees have been on strike, demanding an increase in salaries and improvements in working conditions.
