Georgian State Security Service Begins Interrogating Georgian Mercenaries Returned from Ukraine

The Georgian State Security Service (SSS) has started interrogating Georgian citizens who fought as volunteers for Ukraine.

It has been clarified that the interrogations are being conducted within the framework of a criminal case related to an "attempted coup." At least two individuals have already received such calls: Nadim Khmaladze and anti-occupation movement activist Lasha Chigladze.

“I was told that an investigation regarding the coup started a year ago. They had some questions about it, and also asked when I went and when I returned from Ukraine; there were general questions,” Chigladze said in an interview with opposition TV channel Mtavari.

According to Mamuka Mamulashvili, the commander of the Georgian National Legion fighting for Ukraine, around 300 members of his unit are currently wanted in Georgia. Most of them are now in Ukraine. At the same time, Mamulashvili emphasized that he is not familiar with Khmaladze and Chigladze, and they likely fought in different units.

It should be noted that in June, a Russian court recognized the Georgian National Legion as a terrorist organization. Last September, the State Security Service announced the uncovering of a conspiracy aimed at organizing a coup and seizing power from abroad. Members of the Georgian National Legion are also among the suspects. There had been no updates on the investigation regarding this case for a long time.
