US Reveals Data on Its Strategic Nuclear Weapons
The United States had 3,748 nuclear warheads as of September 2023, intended to bolster its strategic forces. This information was disclosed by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
The last time the US released such data was in October 2021, after which information regarding the quantitative composition of its nuclear arsenal was not made public.
This figure represents an 88% reduction in stockpiles compared to the maximum of 31,255 warheads at the end of the fiscal year 1967, and an 83% decrease from 22,217 warheads when the Berlin Wall fell at the end of 1989, according to the NNSA, which oversees US nuclear capabilities.
Meanwhile, according to the Federation of American Scientists, the US had only 3,708 nuclear warheads by 2024.
