VIDEO: Let's Decide What Sour Cream Is – Green Box for Sour Cream, Orange for Almost Sour Cream, Says Pashinyan
The government approved a package of amendments to several laws in its session today, July 4. The necessity for this package is due to the widespread sale of dairy products with substitutes for milk fat, making it essential for consumers to visually differentiate between products made with dairy fat substitutes and those made without them.
Accordingly, a provision is established that the sale of dairy products in commercial establishments must be separated by color-coded shelves. The adoption of the project will allow consumers to visually identify whether the dairy products are natural or made with milk fat substitutes. It is well-known that products made with milk fat substitutes are cheaper than those produced with natural raw materials. The lack of clear differentiation misleads consumers, causing them to pay more while buying cheaper products.
The project further stipulates that producers can voluntarily use color-coded adhesive labels to highlight the advantages of their products. It is specified that for the sale of dairy products without milk fat (milk fat), the separated shelf should be marked with green color, while for dairy products containing milk fat substitutes, it should be marked with orange color, aimed at preventing misleading actions towards consumers.
