Date of Iran's Presidential Election Second Round Announced
The name of Iran's new president will be revealed based on the results of the second round of the snap elections on July 5. The election will feature reformist Majlis member Masoud Pezeshkian and extreme conservative candidate Saeed Jalili, former head of the office of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and former representative of Tehran in nuclear negotiations.
According to preliminary results from the first round, Masoud Pezeshkian, a former Minister of Health and a representative of the reformist camp, garnered more than 10.4 million votes, while his main competitor, conservative candidate Saeed Jalili, received over 9.4 million votes. In total, more than 24.4 million ballots have been counted.
