A New Powerful Eruption Has Occurred on the Sun
Scientists have recorded the second highest class X eruption on the Sun during the day. This was reported by TASS, citing data from the Institute of Applied Geophysics.
“On May 11, at 14:44 Moscow time, an x1.5 eruption lasted for 46 minutes in a group of sunspots located at 3664 (S18W60),” the report stated. (In Yerevan time, this is 15:44).
The eruption was accompanied by a shortwave (HF) radio communication disruption. This is the second highest class eruption recorded on Saturday, May 11. In total, there have been 12 eruptions of this class in the past two weeks.
On May 10, a strong geomagnetic storm began on Earth following a series of eruptions on the Sun. It reached the G5 power level on the night of May 11, marking the first time since August 24, 2005.
The degree of disturbance in Earth's magnetic field is measured on a scale of five indicators, where G5 is extremely strong and G1 is weak. The maximum level of storms on Earth can cause damage to transformers and disrupt energy systems.
