Where the bodies of the 3 and 5-year-old sisters who died in a fire in Gyumri were found: details of the tragic incident
On May 4, a fire broke out in one of the houses on Suren Matnishyan Street in Gyumri, leading to the discovery of the bodies of two sisters, aged 3 and 5, after extinguishing the flames. The fire started early in the morning, and the Shirak regional emergency management center received the notification at 08:05.
Initially, two firefighting units were dispatched to the scene, followed by two more. At the time of the fire, there were five people in the house. Three of them, the parents, and their 6-year-old son managed to escape. However, the 3 and 5-year-old sisters were left behind in the flames of the burning house. The charred bodies of the girls were found side by side in their bedroom, near their beds.
According to reports from Haykuhakan Jam, the deceased children were residents of one of Gyumri's care centers and were only home on weekends. It has been noted that the burned house does not belong to the family. The accommodation was provided to them by acquaintances living in Russia.
The Investigative Committee has informed Haykuhakan Jam that a criminal proceeding has been initiated in connection with the incident under Article 264, Part 2, Points 2 and 6 (Destruction or damage to property) and Article 155, Part 2, Point 5 of the RA Criminal Code (Murder). An investigation is ongoing. An initial examination of the scene has been conducted, and samples have been taken from the charred parts of the house.
The two girls born in 2019 and 2020 have been recognized as victims. Forensic examinations have been appointed. An operational task has been assigned to the investigative body. Measures are being taken to clarify the causes of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the children's deaths.
