Protesters Block Kirantsi Bridge
Protesters have just blocked the Kirantsi Bridge, where, according to circulating reports, demining work was supposed to take place today. This is reported by News.am.
Earlier, it was announced that residents of Tavush had set up a tent near the Kirantsi Bridge, where they have been waiting for the arrival of those who are to carry out the demining work since the morning.
It is noteworthy that the commissions for demarcating the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on April 19 to begin the demarcation from the Tavush region. The description of the specific sections of the border will be prepared based on the clarification of the coordinates resulting from geodetic measurements in the area, which should be completed by May 15, 2024.
The Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia has announced that, as a result of this process, Azerbaijan will gain 2.5 villages, while the Republic of Armenia will achieve a reduction in security risks. Changes will be made to a several hundred-meter section of the road in the vicinity of the village of Kirantsi, while Voskepar will not face road issues.
After the demarcation, armed forces will pull back from four villages and hand over their positions to border protection troops. Since April 19, residents of the border villages in Tavush have been staging protests on the Armenia-Georgia interstate road. They oppose the demarcation option agreed upon by Yerevan and Baku.
