How can you command the CSTO to act when it is the Armenian leadership that has decided to transfer several settlements to Azerbaijan? - Zakharova
The Armenian leadership itself acknowledges that it is necessary to delimit the border with Azerbaijan. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a press briefing, commenting on the Armenian side's statements regarding the Collective Security Treaty Organization's (CSTO) position.
Zakharova expressed regret over the continued public criticism of the CSTO by Armenian authorities. According to her, the organization's secretariat has confirmed adherence to all commitments regarding Armenia, fully in line with the CSTO's statutory objectives and principles.
No one doubts that Armenia's territory falls within the CSTO's area of responsibility. In the case of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, as we understand, both in Baku and Yerevan, there is agreement to be guided by the 1991 Alma-Ata declaration,” the Russian diplomat stated.
As the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted, the Armenian leadership admits that it is necessary to clarify the border line with Azerbaijan in the framework of negotiations on delimitation. Yerevan acknowledges that it must resolve issues related to disputed territories and enclaves, she added.
“So how can you command the CSTO to act in situations where it is the Armenian leadership that has decided to transfer several settlements to Azerbaijan? Is the CSTO to blame here as well?” Zakharova questioned.
