Portugal's Foreign Ministry Summons Iranian Ambassador
Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Iranian ambassador, demanding the release of the MSC Aries container ship and condemning its attack on Israel, according to a statement from the ministry.
The ministry announced that it will "await the results of this official measure and will assess any further actions based on them." The agency also noted that Portugal has called for the release of the ship's crew, "as the explanations provided thus far have been found unsatisfactory," and has urged for a de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
Previously, special forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran seized the ship in the Persian Gulf.
