NATO Comments on Ukraine's Membership in the Alliance
The head of NATO's Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, has stated that the issue of Ukraine's membership in the alliance is resolved. According to RIA Novosti, he emphasized that there are no discussions surrounding this matter; Ukraine will definitely become a member of the alliance.
He noted that discussions continue regarding when this could happen and what is necessary for it to occur. At the same time, Bauer underlined that one of the conditions for membership is the absence of military operations on Ukrainian territory, which he indicated will not end soon.
Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated that inviting Ukraine to NATO while the country is in conflict could lead to war with Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance. He mentioned that Finland and Sweden received security guarantees when invited to NATO, but if Ukraine were to receive similar guarantees, it would result in a war with Russia.
