Turkey Intends to Join the EU, Says Hakan Fidan
Turkey intends to join the EU. This is a strategic goal for the country, stated officials from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
“Membership in the EU remains a strategic goal for Ankara. The process of Turkey’s accession to the EU is extremely important and should not be left to the narrow political agendas of a number of countries,” said Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during a press conference with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares.
Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that Ankara aims to achieve membership in the European Union. Turkey has had candidate status since 1999.
