Armenia's Strongest Border Segment at Risk of Collapse: 'Armenia' Faction on Tavush
The 'Armenia' faction of the National Assembly believes that starting the process of sectional demarcation and delimitation from the Tavush region will lead to the collapse of the strongest and most fortified segment of the Republic of Armenia's border.
“The statements made by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Tavush on March 18 confirm our concerns about the ongoing negotiations, which unilaterally satisfy Azerbaijan's preconditions,” the statement reads.
The faction has expressed its apprehensions: without a final agreement and adherence to the principle of reciprocity, sectional demarcation and delimitation entirely serve Azerbaijan's interests. The actual loss of control over strategic routes will multiply Armenia's security threats.
By continually threatening its own people with war, the fulfillment of Azerbaijan's unending demands will not only fail to prevent new demands from Azerbaijan, but also create fertile ground for further aggressive actions.
The abandonment of the best practices of demarcation and delimitation in favor of Azerbaijan, along with the disregard for international experience, is indicative of a renunciation of national vital interests.
The 'Armenia' faction emphasized that actions aimed at fully or partially limiting the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia in favor of another state, as well as the surrender of territories, are the gravest crimes against the state.
It should be reminded that during a meeting with the residents of the village of Voskepar in Tavush, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that there might be war by the end of the week if the Armenian side refuses to discuss the issues of demarcation and delimitation with Azerbaijan. In the village of Kiran, he also declared that as a result of the demarcation and delimitation, the contact line with Azerbaijan would become a recognized border, and border guards would replace soldiers there.
