Israel Transfers List of Individuals to Egypt Who Will Not Be Released in Exchange Deal
Israeli representatives have provided the Egyptian side, which is one of the mediators in the Gaza settlement negotiations, with a list of Palestinian prisoners who will not be released from Israeli jails as part of potential hostage exchange agreements. This was reported by Sky News – Arabiya.
According to the media outlet, Israel has given the Egyptian mediators the names of Palestinian prisoners who will not be freed, even if the parties agree to a hostage exchange deal.
During negotiations concerning the Gaza settlement, the Palestinian militant group Hamas initially agreed to a prisoner exchange regarding Palestinian prisoners without insisting on the release of its long-term supporters as part of the first phase of the deal. However, after some time, the group reassessed its position and demanded the release of several hundred Palestinians who were serving long-term sentences or were sentenced to life imprisonment.
