Sona Aghekyan Stripped of Her Mandate
During an extraordinary session of the Yerevan Council, by a vote of 34 in favor and 0 against, the council stripped member Sona Aghekyan of her mandate. Prior to the vote, she stated in her speech that she has always been in opposition and fought for the interests of the citizens, adding that in the past, no government had sought to strip her of her mandate for failing to comply with their expectations.
“Stripping a council member of their mandate is a sign of weak and cowardly authority. I will continue my fight in any capacity,” Aghekyan asserted.
Yerevan Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan explained that the decision to strip Sona Aghekyan of her mandate was due to her failure to participate in votes, rather than her absences.
