Has the Secretary General Been Wiretapped? Why Did the Prime Minister Dismiss Karen Sargsyan?
The Ministry of Economy has started the year with scandalous dismissals. Before the dismissal of Deputy Minister Ani Ispariyan, another important official has also lost their job in the ministry. This concerns Karen Sargsyan, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy and head of the Department of Economics and Management at the National Academy of Sciences, whose dismissal has intriguing details that have come to light.
In particular, sources within the ministry report that the National Security Service (NSS) has been wiretapping the Ministry of Economy for an extended period, and the information obtained was transmitted to the Prime Minister. Sargsyan has also become a “victim” of the NSS's secret operation, who was urged to submit his resignation to avoid unnecessary noise. On January 12, 2024, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a decision to dismiss Karen Sargsyan from the position of Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy.
Currently, the duties of the Secretary General are being temporarily performed by Zhanna Zakaryan.
