Video: Farmers' Protest in Paris Takes on New Forms
Farmers' protests in Paris are taking on new forms. Protesters have begun to dig trenches on the roads. Fires have been reported on several routes. Footage from the protest has been shared online.
French police have arrested 18 individuals near the Rangis food market on the outskirts of Paris and seized their tractors, according to Europe 1 radio. "Eighteen farmers have been detained for 'obstructing traffic,'" media outlets report.
It is noted that the farmers were located near Europe's largest food market, Rangis, about 7 kilometers south of Paris. Earlier, farmers' unions had announced their intention to organize a so-called 'blockade' of the market to push the government for new support measures for farmers. Farmers are organizing blockades on all eight highways leading to Paris.
