Europe Needs 50 Billion Euros, No Less Than Ukraine, Says Orban
“Europeans need 50 billion euros as much as Ukrainians do. It is a mistake to tie Europe to a four-year term, considering the upcoming European Parliament elections this summer,” stated Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in an interview with the French publication Point.
“The main argument, at least for democrats, is that elections will take place in Europe in five months. We will completely ignore the opinion of Europeans by making a decision that ties Europe for four years and requires a huge amount of money. It seems that the people's opinion matters little, just like in the results of the European elections held in June. If Europe intends to maintain itself as a democratic community based on the rule of law, we simply cannot accept such a decision,” Orban emphasized.
He noted that Budapest does not support allocating 50 billion euros to Kyiv for four years because “that is a huge sum,” but is open to a compromise to approve Ukraine's funding every year and unanimously.
