Regional Police Departments to be Abolished, Says Minister of Internal Affairs
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vahe Ghazaryan, has announced that within the framework of structural reform, the police service in Armenia will develop into a professional structure with four main directions. According to him, there will be a criminal police, a patrol service, a police guard, and community policing.
“The regional police departments will be abolished, and the subdivisions will have their territorial units in Yerevan and the regions with vertical and efficient management,” Ghazaryan stated.
The minister noted that an open competition has already been announced for recruiting personnel in the criminal police, and citizens can also apply. “It is noteworthy that in order to ensure the attractiveness of work, a certification system has been implemented in the police and emergency services, through which officers can double their financial support,” he said.
