Video: Baku's Statements Are Simply Statements, Says Khandanian
Armenia has not received any proposal from Azerbaijan to initiate bilateral negotiations. This was stated by the Chairman of the Permanent Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia, Sargis Khandanian, during a briefing with reporters. His comments were in response to remarks made earlier by Azerbaijani Presidential Assistant Hikmet Hajiyev, who claimed that Yerevan and Baku are capable of conducting direct bilateral negotiations without mediators.
"These are simply statements, and there has been no proposal to set a date, time, or location for bilateral negotiations. We want all the logic that has developed during the negotiation process, as well as the agreements that have been reached, to serve as the foundation of the negotiations. These agreements are articulated in the peace agreement, and we want Azerbaijan to publicly reaffirm them as well. Armenia insists that this must happen; the content of the negotiations is important," Khandanian noted.
According to Khandanian, whether the negotiations are bilateral or involve mediators, it is essential for Armenia that all principles are maintained. As for the mediators, the question is whether they are guarantors or merely facilitators. More details can be found in the video.
