VIDEO: Ukrainian Rocket, Not Russian, Exploded in Donetsk – NYT
The American newspaper New York Times has published an investigation concluding that the recent attack on the market in the city of Konstantinovka, located in Ukraine's Donetsk region, was most likely caused by a malfunctioning Ukrainian missile fired from a Buk missile defense system.
The explosion in Konstantinovka at the beginning of September resulted in at least 15 fatalities and over 30 injuries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attributed the strike to the Russian army.
However, New York Times reporters have drawn different conclusions based on eyewitness testimonies, debris from the missile, and impact traces on the ground. They indicate that the circumstances surrounding the tragic event in Konstantinovka on September 6 suggest that a Ukrainian missile detonated in the market.
The official representative of Ukraine's armed forces stated that the country's special services are investigating the incident and declined to provide further comments.
The authors of the NYT investigation note that they do not possess information on how it was determined that a Ukrainian missile may have exploded in Konstantinovka. However, this could be attributed to the possibility that it deviated from its intended course due to an electronic failure or an accident during launch. The strike was likely the result of a tragic accident, as mentioned in the publication.
