Putin Hopes Azerbaijan Will Not Carry Out Ethnic Cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh
At a discussion held at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russian President Vladimir Putin assured that there is no turning point in Armenian-Russian relations. “I do not think there is any turning point. We see and understand what is happening,” said the Russian president.
Today, Vladimir Putin acknowledged that, nevertheless, some issues remain unresolved, including humanitarian issues, the security of the Armenians in Karabakh, and problems related to the mandate of Russian peacekeepers. “Any form of ethnic cleansing there is unacceptable,” emphasized the Russian president, adding, “I hope that the leadership of Azerbaijan, as they have always told us and continue to say, is not interested in carrying out any form of ethnic cleansing. Moreover, they are interested in ensuring that the process (of conflict resolution) unfolds smoothly.”
