Macron's Man Plans to Lead the EU: Politico
The European Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, who is responsible for the militarization of the economy and the implementation of the European program for supplying shells to Ukraine, intends to replace Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission. This was reported by Politico, citing diplomatic sources.
Von der Leyen's first term will conclude in 2024. “There is no longer any doubt that Breton wants this position. In fact, it is becoming more and more obvious day by day,” said an unnamed official of the European Commission.
According to the publication, Breton is already doing everything possible to make his appointment inevitable in the next five-year term. The source indicated that Breton is considered to be close to French President Emmanuel Macron.
The publication emphasized that Breton's candidacy could become problematic for many EU countries, which are wary that he may start promoting French interests in Brussels.
