VIDEO: Why the War Stopped on November 9. Pashinyan

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, is currently speaking at the session of the parliamentary inquiry commission about the 44-day war, the trilateral agreement of November 9, and the negotiations that took place prior to that.

During his remarks, the Prime Minister answered the question of why he signed the document and why the war stopped specifically on November 9: “On November 9, 2020, I signed the trilateral statement on terminating the second Nagorno-Karabakh war, which was agreed upon by the President of Russia, the President of Azerbaijan, and the Prime Minister of Armenia.”

“Of course, the process of the fall of Shushi played a pivotal role here. The significant aspect is not only the symbolic value of Shushi but also its strategic importance. After the loss of Shushi, Stepanakert would have been essentially under threat, and the pressure on Martuni in Nagorno-Karabakh would inevitably increase. Most importantly, our approximately 25,000 soldiers would have faced the danger of being encircled,” the Prime Minister emphasized, adding that the November 9 statement was the fifth attempt to cease the hostilities: “The first such conversation took place on October 7, when I called Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of his birthday.”
