VIDEO: I am surprised by Serge Sargsyan's surprise, says Pashinyan

In a session of the National Assembly's investigative committee, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also addressed the former President of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan.

“I want to refer to another statement by Serge Sargsyan, which he made in an interview with Armenia TV on July 16, 2017. This interview, of course, is still available online today. Sargsyan stated that the 2016 war showed that Azerbaijan is rejecting the Madrid principles for resolving the issue, and this has become clear to everyone. He pointed out that Azerbaijan's position is also clear. According to Sargsyan, Azerbaijan claims that the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is its internal matter, meaning that Nagorno-Karabakh is a part of Azerbaijan and should remain so,” said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

“Along with these quotes, I want to draw your attention to another matter. The legal expressions of international discourse from 1996, 1999, and 2000, both valid and invalid, in 2020. These internal connections are indeed very important. And in response to Sargsyan's quotes, I want to say that I am surprised by Serge Sargsyan's surprise. Why would Azerbaijan not consider the Nagorno-Karabakh issue its internal issue after Armenia, based on Sargsyan's own wording, compromised and, by accepting the Madrid principles, nullified the decision on the unification of the Republic of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh from 1989, as well as the results of the referendum held in Nagorno-Karabakh? This, I reiterate, was a fundamental issue that Azerbaijan resolved according to the Madrid principles,” he noted.
