Young Man Arrested in France for Attempting to Assassinate Macron
French law enforcement has arrested a resident of the republic suspected of attempting to assassinate President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to the Doubs department in April this year, as reported by TASS.
The incident occurred on April 27 of this year, following a ceremony dedicated to Toussaint Louverture, the leader of the Haitian Revolution. Protesters against pension reforms had gathered near the Château de Joux, where the head of state was present, attempting to breach the police barricade. During clashes, gendarmes used tear gas. As Macron was preparing to leave by helicopter, one of the protesters fired pepper spray in his direction.
Investigations revealed that the suspect is a 20-year-old carpenter and an activist in the leftist movement, who was arrested at his home this week. France's anti-terrorism prosecutor has launched an investigation into the attempted destruction of the helicopter, as well as the assassination attempt against the president and law enforcement officials present in it.
The arrested individual did not deny his actions, stating that he aimed to "challenge" Macron and make it clear that the residents of the republic disagree with his policies.
