An air alert has been declared across Ukraine throughout the day on June 16, with the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Air Force reporting shelling of Kyiv and the Kyiv region by ballistic missiles. According to meduza.io, explosions have been heard in the Podil district of the Ukrainian capital.
The Kyiv City Administration reported on the operation of air defense systems. The Ukrainian Armed Forces' Air Force stated that, according to preliminary data, air defense units have shot down six "Kinzhal" missiles, six "Kalibr" missiles, and two reconnaissance drones.
It is noteworthy that on June 16, African leaders arrived in Kyiv to discuss a peace mission in Ukraine. The delegation was led by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. According to Reuters, the African countries have developed "confidence-building measures" to establish a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv.
These measures include, in particular, the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory, a refusal to use tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, as well as the suspension of the International Criminal Court's decision regarding the arrest of Vladimir Putin and the easing of sanctions.
The African leaders' delegation is expected to visit Moscow on June 17 for negotiations with Vladimir Putin.
