Criminal Proceedings Initiated Following Incident of Police Officer Hitting Citizen
During the "Yerevan Wine Days" festival on Saryan Street, a criminal case has been initiated by the Investigative Committee of Armenia in the Center and Norq Marash administrative districts in response to an incident where a police officer hit a citizen. This information was provided by the spokesperson for the Investigative Committee, Gor Abrahamyan.
Earlier, a video had circulated on social media depicting the police officer questioning the citizen, who subsequently became unconscious.
"The criminal proceedings have been initiated based on Article 441, Part 2, Clause 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (Abuse of official authority by an official, or exceeding official authority, which was committed through the use of violence or threats of violence)," Abrahamyan stated.
It is emphasized that all necessary measures will be taken during the preliminary investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and to provide a legal assessment of the actions of all individuals involved.
Earlier, the police announced that a service inquiry had been initiated regarding the incident, and the police officer’s duties have been temporarily suspended.
It should be noted that the "Yerevan Wine Days" festival is being held from June 2 to 4, from 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
