The CPP Received 523 Gifts; It’s Unclear Who Gave Them or Why, Formerly This Was Called Corruption – Takhuhy Tovmasyan

Internal threats to democracy are present in Armenia. This was stated today, on May 31, during the Armenian Democracy Forum held in Yerevan, by MP and Chair of the Human Rights and Security Commission, Takhuhy Tovmasyan, while addressing Nikol Pashinyan's assertion that there are no threats to democracy in Armenia.

“You have all heard the remarks about corruption and judicial independence, as well as the regress recorded by Transparency International. These are the very indicators that threaten democracy in Armenia,” Tovmasyan said.

Tovmasyan also recalled the discovery of irregularities in the elections of the CPP party's board. “After all this, claiming that something has changed, I do not share that opinion; we had different expectations and anticipations. There is much talk about party financing and independence being fundamental, but we have learned from the conclusion of an independent auditing organization regarding the CPP that the party received 523 gifts, it is unclear from whom, under what circumstances, and in exchange for what. Previously, this was called corruption. It should still be framed that way,” noted Takhuhy Tovmasyan.
