History has proven that when we do not speak, others do. Sinanyan

In diplomacy, there is a protocol, and there are expressions that are standardly used, and relying on them and attributing great meaning to them is a waste of time. This was stated by the Chief Commissioner of Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan during a conversation with journalists on May 31, addressing the meeting between Pashinyan and Erdoğan and the question of why Pashinyan is eagerly awaiting the meeting with Erdoğan.

“Why is this meeting important? Because in the morning when we wake up, we are in the following reality: we have a neighbor with a population of 85 million, named Turkey, and it has a re-elected president, and we are a state that must survive. Therefore, it means that our leadership must speak with their leadership. History has proven that when we do not speak, others do,” he said.

Regarding Pashinyan's statement about recognizing Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan and whether he shares that view, Sinanyan responded, “I understand that for the two states to have no territorial claims, they recognize each other’s territorial integrity, but that does not change the fact that there are Armenians living on their native land, and there is a self-determination issue for those people. We can go back to Lenin, we can start from the November 1920 attack on Armenia by the Russian-Bolshevik-Turkish alliance. There are historians who are well acquainted with our history and know where this comes from.”

He noted that these statements are conditioned by the outcomes of the 2020 war. When asked if the former authorities dragged the country into the war, Sinanyan said, “Of course, by keeping the country weak.”
