Çavuşoğlu Threatens New Measures If Nemesis Monument Is Not Removed

Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met with an Azerbaijani delegation on May 23 at a hotel in the Muratpaşa district of Antalya, during a visit by journalists to Turkey. According to Ermenihaber.am, while discussing the necessity of signing the peace agreement proposed by Azerbaijan, Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey desires peace in the South Caucasus and has taken certain steps in support of this process with Armenia.

Regarding Turkey-Armenia relations, the Turkish Foreign Minister commented on the installation of a source monument dedicated to the "Nemesis" operation, which aimed to punish Turkish and Azerbaijani political figures responsible for the Armenian Genocide.

“The installation of a monument in Yerevan for terrorists who sacrificed our Azerbaijani brothers, our soldiers and diplomats from the Ottoman era is an unacceptable act. We also took some measures, closing our airspace to planes heading to third countries,” Çavuşoğlu said.

Furthermore, the Turkish minister described the Armenian Genocide as a fabrication and expressed hope that Armenia would correct this so-called error (referring to the dismantling of the Nemesis monument). Otherwise, he threatened to take new measures and steps.

It is noteworthy that the installation of the source monument honoring the heroes of the Nemesis operation in Yerevan's circular park has caused dissatisfaction in Turkey.
