VIDEO: Protests in Tbilisi Against Restoration of Flights Between Russia and Georgia

Radical opposition representatives held a protest in Tbilisi last night against the restoration of air communication between Russia and Georgia. Participants gathered near the parliament building shared with reporters that the resumption of flights to Russia threatens Georgia's potential candidate status for membership in the European Union.

Previously, several dozen radicals had gathered near Tbilisi International Airport to protest the restoration of air communication. During the rally, police detained six opposition members for violating public order. They were later fined by a court decision.

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili also expressed dissatisfaction with the restoration of air communication between the two countries. Former President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is undergoing treatment at the Vivamed clinic in Tbilisi, decided to support his supporters via social media.

“New methods are necessary to achieve the goal; you must continue to hit this wall, and it will undoubtedly collapse,” wrote Saakashvili. He also noted that he is a Ukrainian politician and a “great admirer of Georgia.”
